Best Baby Monitor Setup for a Floor Bed

A floor bed can make a baby monitor surprisingly awkward to position. The camera is often high enough to be out of reach, but then it cannot tilt down far enough to show the whole bed.

That is actually how Clover & Fox Forge started. Our son's monitor was sitting on a high shelf above his floor bed and we had it propped up on cardboard to get a better angle. It kept slipping, so we designed a fixed angled shelf mount for it.

Option 1: an angled shelf mount

For many floor-bed rooms, a high shelf or dresser is the simplest no-drill setup. A fixed angled mount points the camera down without balancing it on books, wedges or other temporary supports.

Our angled baby monitor shelf mounts are model-specific and use a fixed 30 degree downward angle. The camera still needs to sit on a stable surface where it cannot be reached or knocked down.

Option 2: a wall mount

A wall mount is useful when there is no suitable shelf or when you want to keep furniture completely clear. Our baby monitor wall mounts use a fixed 45 degree downward angle for the compatible camera models.

The trade-off is that wall mounts need suitable fixings and a permanent mounting position, so they are less convenient if you regularly move the camera between rooms.

Option 3: a flexible arm

A flexible arm can work well for travel or temporary setups because the position can be changed. The camera must have a standard 1/4 inch threaded socket, or use the correct model-specific 1/4 inch adapter.

Because flexible mounts can move more than a rigid shelf or wall mount, make sure the attachment point is stable and recheck the setup after repositioning it.

Which setup gives the clearest view?

Start with where the camera can be kept securely out of reach, then choose the mount that gives it enough downward angle to see the bed. A fixed shelf mount is usually the simplest option when a suitable high shelf is already available. A wall mount gives a clean permanent setup, while a flexible arm is useful when portability matters more.
